The Royal Netherlands Embassy in Hanoi and the Netherlands consulate general in Ho Chi Minh City proudly present the photographs of Martin Kers, Doan Duc Minh and Hans Kemp.

All 3 photographers are fascinated by landscapes and people. they capture the beauty of country, city, people old and young in their lenses. the images are translated into pictures with the skillful touch of a master painter. Lights, shades, lines, colors, shapes, moods and movements frozen in that one magic shot: this is their inspiring “Common chord”.

Dutch photographer Martin Kers was born in 1944 near the city of rotterdam. He started his career as an illustrator, but at the end of the ’70s set up as a freelance photographer. He is one of the best known photographers in the Netherlands. His work is renowned for the graphic way he captures the netherlands and its landscapes. the reportages and documentaries for his clients send him travelling worldwide, including vietnam. His publications have been awarded several national and international prizes. His contribution to this exhibition are some spectacular nature and landscape photographs of the Netherlands.

Born in 1957, Doan Duc Minh is a Saigon native and a professional photographer since 1982. emphasising on photo journalism and advertising photography, his clients include most of the major Vietnamese and foreign corporations inVietnam. His work featured in a number of national and international shows and has won numerous awards, most recently the national prize photo award for the year 2001. His selection for the exhibition includes a few works in black and white to illustrate that certain everyday scenes will soon be just a memory. He is currently working on a photo essay book on Vietnam.

Hans Kemp was born in the Netherlands in 1962. After a lenghty spell of photographing all around Asia he moved to vietnam in 1995. His photos have been published in numerous international magazines and for corporate assignments he visits various countries in the region. In vietnam many of his images appear on postcards. Hans Kemp has published two well received books: “postcards of Vietnam” and “on the dragon’s back – impressions of hoi an”. This exhibition presents his photography offering insights into the daily lives of the Vietnamese people from the Mekong delta to misty mountains in the north.
